Save $1 off Glade Scented Oil Candle Holder + Walgreens Deal Scenario

This post is mainly for the locals.. Yesterday evening when I went to the Gulf Shores, Walgreens, my husband and I spotted a cart full of some really awesome clearance. On the cart, we found Glade Scented Oil Candle holders for a mere $2. There were other great things on the cart as well, such as the 2oz Glade Fragrance Collection candles, Airwick scented oil singles to name a few.

Walgreens (mainly in Gulf Shores, but check your local store):
Glade Scented Oil Candle Holder, $2 (on clearance)
Use (1) $1/1 Glade Scented Oil Candle Holder coupon (use zip 30303)
Pay: $1

Also, don't forget.. our 1000 fan appreciation giveaway is underway! Come enter to win some great prizes!

Save $2 on Theraflu at Rite Aid + Deal Scenario

Grab this great one-time use coupon for $2/1 Theraflu Product from Rite Aid! It's valid through 10/9!

Rite Aid Deal Scenario:
Theraflu Flu products, $6.49 each (based on the online price)
Pay: $2.49

Also, does your neighborhood Publix accept Rite Aid as a competitor? If so, you may be able to get a better deal at Publix.

Notice to all my local fans (Gulf Shores, holla!), the Gulf Shores Publix no longer accepts Rite Aid as a competitor. No idea why. Their new coupon policy flyers have Rite Aid edited out of the list of competitors they will accept. :(

Lastly, don't forget to enter my 1000 fan appreciation Giveaway sponsored by MyMemories! You could win one of two great prizes! Either MyMemories Suite 2.0 free software download or an envelope with $165 worth of coupons!

Do You DONATE?

The best thing about using coupons is the ability to help others.

For example, I dragged my husband (though not forcefully, thankfully!) to Target and Walgreens earlier this afternoon. While at Target, I asked him a silly question I already knew the answer to. ((If I do not involve him in the couponing he will lose interest and become bored fairly fast.. so letting him believe that he's my human calculator for the day helps keep him focused and he's less likely to keep asking "are you done yet?".)) My question was "How much is 20% off of $10?". It's an easy math problem sure.. but he likes feeling needed. Well, the lady behind me answered at the exact same time my husband did. Man, did that make me feel stupid. :) Target had some RE home stuff on sale (mainly stuff for dorms, etc.). I got talking to this customer who was thinking about picking up sheets for her niece. She commented on my binder and said she wanted to get into couponing but had no idea how to start; no idea where to find coupons. I reassured her that couponing is easy to get into and that she could find coupons all over the place.. like Target.com for example. Before I walked away I made the mental decision to let go of getting the comforter that was on clearance for $9.98 (even though I had a 20% off coupon for it). I also handed her the coupon and told her to get it. That's when her husband walked up and she's like.. "I could get it for my niece.. or for $7.98 I could get this for myself". I was glad I could influence the sale but at the same time I'm glad she saved even more money than just shopping the clearance items. Also, before we checked out at Target we were walking though the make up isle and I saw a lady trying to decide on what cover girl make up to purchase. At this point I still had my binder open and in one of the front pockets I had $1/2 Target coupons for Cover Girl products poking out. I found several of these coupons at the beginning of last week (it's a miracle what you find if you clip your coupons in a timely manner!). I think I handed that customer two coupons. I can't send Target coupons overseas so it's better than throwing them out!

Okay, so the point of this post was to talk about donating. Do you donate to your local shelter, food bank, the USO or other private charity organizations? Back in June, I bought an 18 gallon Sterilite tote which I denoted to my husband and friends as my "donation bucket". I realize that most of it is either feminine care (pads are great to donate because they are always going on sale) or toothpaste. There are other random things in there as well. Like brand-new womens plus size trousers, a Justin Beiber cd, diapers, facial cleansers & lotion. Also, the great debate that my husband epically lost.. there are a couple bottles of vitamins inside. I also have bags of cat litter still in the trunk of my car that we either planned on giving a good friend of ours (she gave a good home to a cat we found last October && the cat just had kittens.) or donating to the same shelter. With all the recent good deals on either toothpaste or feminine care, if you don't use it but have coupons for it.. buy it to donate. You will improve the quality of life of another individual or even a family. I currently have ARV $233 worth of goods inside. I had to take the lid off of it because it's starting to overflow a bit. My family is waiting to do our donation until we have more to donate. One of the good thing about giving back to others is that you can write it off on your taxes... that and it feels good to be a responsible citizen in our community.

Coupons help us to save money but shouldn't we also use them to help others?

1000 Fan Appreciation Giveaway & Review: My Memories Suite 2.0

(banner courtesy of my memories)
I've always enjoyed photography and crafting from a very early age. My photography habit got to be so bad that my father had to limit the number of rolls of film I was allowed to get developed every week. This was all before digital pictures became popular, mind you. I went through a lot of film to say the least. When I was in middle school I enjoyed cutting pictures out of magazines and plastering them together either with packaging tape or in one of those old photo albums with the sticky pages. When I grew into high school I discovered ways to make my version of scrap booking digital. The first digital camera my parents bought I used endlessly taking somewhat to very random but beautiful pictures.

When Liz over at My Memories contacted me about an opportunity to try and giveaway a copy of the My Memories Suite 2.0, I became excited. For moms all over the country, many of my readers included, I knew that this would be a great opportunity for both myself and them as well. I love trying new software and I love new ways to integrate my artwork into true masterpieces.

I have downloaded My Memories Suite 2.0 and have begun to play with it. I have self-taught myself many programs over the years, but I felt like I was at a slight loss when I first opened this program.. I had no idea where to start! What I found most interesting about this software is that you have the ability to do more than just scrapbook! For example, you can make photobooks, cards, calendars, and gifts as well. Like any program you want to teach yourself, it's essential to know how to find tutorials for them. I always use Google and the name of the program I am looking for a tutorial for. Example: "My Memories Suite 2.0 tutorials". I am kicking myself right now because I should have checked out their blog first! It's such a great resource of information and tools. They also have a YouTube channel that has helpful videos on it.

I used a very basic photo layout for my 1st try, some pictures of my stock pile, a fancy font and a swirl embellishment. I would call this beginner's luck. The basic photo layout was very easy to use. For the pictures, I just selected the photos I wanted to use and dragged and dropped them to where I wanted them. For added interest, I used a drop shadow on all of the pictures.

The more I began to experiment with it the more comfortable and confident I felt about the program (and my abilities too). They have several free kits and quick pages available as well as ones for sale.

This is an easy program to use, however it will take time to learn how to bend it to your will. Just remember, if it's worthwhile, it will not come on the first try. Luckily, for both of us, MyMemories writes a blog and has a great forum for newbies!

I used several pictures *with permission* from Victoria Bement Photography to show the resulting quality of product from this program.

The best part about this software is that it's AFFORDABLE. If you're into scrapbooking with paper and brads and other doo-dads, you know that this hobby can easily turn your pockets inside out. With the new MyMemories software you can buy a kit that comes with pages or embellishments, layouts, etc and it's affordable. Gone are the days of taking out the scissors and spending endless hours to have just one copy of your precious scrapbook. MyMemories makes integrating photos and videos into an interactive storybook a breeze! Besides being affordable, this program allows you to duplicate your projects so that you can easily share them with family and friends. Christmas is right around the corner and what better gift to give than the gift of memories!

If you would like to go ahead and get your own copy of My Memories Suite, you can get $10 off the software, as well as $10 to the MyMemories.com store.  Simply use the code STMMMS14716.  Copy and paste the code into the “Coupon/Promo Code” box on the “My Cart” screen.  This code never expires.  It is good for $10 off the My Memories Suite v2 (the current version of the software) and your software will come with a $10 coupon code to use in the My Memories store.

I have decided to use Rafflecopter for this giveaway. It's very simple and easy to use (just like MyMemories!) The giveaway will last for one week and you will have the ability to get multiple entries. Good luck && thanks for helping The Coupon Faerie reach 1000 fans on Facebook!

This giveaway will have multiple winners. The prizes are: MyMemories Suite 2.0 software; (1) envelope with $74.05 worth of ASSORTED GROCERY coupons; (1) envelope with $91.95 worth of ASSORTED coupons. There is even an awesome prize (4 FULL SIZE PRODUCTS) to the blog or Facebook page with the most referrals!

I received the above mentioned products from MyMemories to facilitate this review. I was under no obligation to write a positive review. This is 100% my honest opinion & may differ from yours. This giveaway is in no way sponsored, endorsed or associated with Facebook.

Bad Experience at Family Dollar

I just got done emailing Family Dollar at Corporate Level with the awful experience I had today.. here's what I wrote:

Type: Customer Feedback - Store Related
First Name: Kate
Last Name: xxxx
Address: xxxx
City: Gulf Shores
State: Alabama
Zip Code: 36542
Phone #: xxxx
E-mail Address: thecouponfaerie@gmail.com
Message: Hello. I noticed you had a FABULOUS find this week in your ad, which made me over the moon happy. I clipped all of my coupons and took them to my nearest store. I wanted to make sure that I had the store correct (as I have gotten Family Dollar confused with Dollar General in the past and vice versa) for the appropriate sale, so I double checked with the ad at the front of the store. When I saw I had the correct store. I took a basket and went to the shelf and selected my items. Mind you, most stores have similar coupon policies so I didn't feel the need to have a copy of your policy in my binder before heading there. However, after the horrible experience I had this afternoon, I have printed myself a copy. The cashier and the MIC were both very rude to my husband and myself. You see, in the ad this week, Family Dollar has Cover Girl Queen cosmetic tools (i.e. toe separators, compact slant/point tip tweezers, and 10ct emery boards) on sale for $1 each. There were coupons out that were $1/1 and $2.50/2. When you combine the coupons with the sale at Family Dollar it makes for some wonderful and (almost) free stocking stuffers for Christmas. The coupons I have are for $1/1 and $2.50/2 ANY Cover Girl product(s). The cosmetic tools would fall under this category. It was reported on some of my affiliated blogs that the coupons wouldn't scan properly and that the cashier would have to manually enter them because the coupon didn't state which Cover Girl products they had to be used on. I tried to explain this to the cashier and then she got the manager involved. The manager tried to explain (in a very rude and condescending way, mind you) that I cannot use a $1/1 coupon on a $1 item because then I would be getting the product for free and I would only be paying tax. She also said I could not use the $2.50/2 coupons because it exceeded the purchase price of the products. Which is all fine and dandy, I understand that. But she refused to even adjust down the price because Family Dollar doesn't do free items. Except the coupon didn't state "for a free item" it stated $1/1 and the product just happened to be $1. I do not understand why I was treated like a criminal for using coupons. Family Dollar would have gotten reimbursed for every coupon used plus $0.08 per coupon for s&h. I don't really understand what the big deal is here and why this store would not accept my coupons. The Family Dollar coupon policy did not state that I could not use a $1/1 coupon with a $1 product resulting in just paying the tax on the item. The Manager in Charge condescendingly told me that Family Dollar would not allow me to use that coupon and if I wanted to use (3) $1/1 products, I needed to purchase (4) $1 items but I would not be allowed to use a 4th coupon on the fourth item. I do not enjoy being treated in this manner, when I am following the rules. My husband was also very displeased with the service. With the customer service I received this afternoon, it's no surprise why this store barely had customers in it. I hope to hear from you soon, Kate

Late Sunday Evening Wal-Mart Run

I work the night shift so I can go to Wal-Mart whenever.. and my husband and I share a car (yeah that sucks too). So tomorrow night I am working until about 11pm (or hopefully earlier!) and then I hope to skedaddle on over to Wal-Mart to price match to the new ads that are coming out!
So here's my list:

*Revlon Super Lustrous or Moon Drops (-->PM to CVS) $0.99
Use $1/1 Revlon Color Cosmetics (SS 8/14; exp. 9/18)
Pay: $0.09 sales tax
OOP: FREE (just pay tax!)
*Cover Girl Queen Toe Separators, Emery Boards 10ct, or Compact Slant or Point Tip Tweezers (PM to Family Dollar) $1.00
Use $1/1 Cover Girl product (PG 8/28; exp. 9/30)
or $1/1 Cover Girl Queen Product (SS 9/11)
((or $2.50/2  Cover Girl Products (PG 8/28; exp. 9/30) BEST DEAL))
Pay: Either Sales tax or get $0.30 overage!
OOP: FREE (either pay sales tax or get the $.30 overage depending on which coupon you decide to go with!)
so far, this is my list to go by. I am hoping to also look over their clearance back to school supplies and hope to score some more little things to use.. like composition notebooks (I use those to write my shopping lists in!).

First Time Price Matching at Wal-Mart Sans the Ad

Hello this morning. I just wanted to tell you about an experience I had at my local Wal-Mart the other morning.
This trip amused me and at the same time frustrated me. My husband and I both had the day off and had stayed up late together catching up on t.v. shows and movies. I wasn't frustrated with Wal-Mart. We had started off saying "We'll go to Burger King, the drive-thru is 24 hours." We pull up to the drive-thru and try to order to Oreo sundaes (which at 3am, sounds delish). The worker on the other side of the speaker told us that their machine was down because they were cleaning it. Well, that's swell. That was the whole point of our trip! So we head over to the local McDonald's. When we pull up to the drive-thru (24 hours, yay?) they inform us that they only have specific items on the menu to order from and that they take cash ONLY. It's 3am, where I'm from, cash at that time of night/day is unheard of.. mostly because they would get robbed a lot (mind you, I am originally from a very large city!). We didn't have cash so we pulled away and felt dejected. Finally as a last resort I suggest the local Wal-Mart that is 24 hours. I remembered that at our local Publix they had Edy's Ice Cream on sale this past week 2 for $7 ($3.50 each). Wal-Mart doesn't have the SELECTION of Ice Cream that our local Publix has. However, for this time of night, Wal-Mart's what's open. We'll make do. We get up to the cash register (having also picked up some more clearance note cards and convincing my husband to also purchase another copy of All You magazine) and the cashier goes to scan it and I hesitantly say that I would like to price match the Edy's to Publix price. I did not have the ad on me. I did not even have my purse, cell phone, binder, etc. on me. We were just supposed to get ice cream. This wasn't supposed to be rocket science! But our Wal-Mart cashier was sweet and price matched the ice cream without any problems and WITHOUT THE AD. This was my first time price matching without the ad. I wasn't sure if they would even do it but was thrilled that they did! This was a very pleasant experience with Wal-Mart and I was deeply surprised! Not all trips end this awesome. We ended up getting Edy's Vanilla Bean ice cream which was paired nicely with the sprinkles I had waiting at home for me! Needless to say, the whole half-gallon was gone (vanished!) within 12 hours of us buying it.

What's for Dinner Tonight? Tuna Melts with Fennel and Onion

This is what I am making for dinner tonight...
Hold-the-Mayo Tuna Melts with Fennel & Onion
I didn't make it EXACTLY like the directions said.. I kind of skipped some ingredients (my husband dislikes black olives & capers and I'm not a big fan myself) and I combined other parts of the directions into an all-in-one type deal. I'll let you know how it comes out!

Here's the recipe, courtesy of Rachael Ray! Enjoy!
If you'd like to print the recipe, you can do so, here.

INGREDIENTS:
1 large clove garlic, minced or grated
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil)
Salt and black pepper
1 large red onion, 1/4 fi nely chopped and the rest thinly sliced
1 bulb fennel—quartered and thinly sliced, reserving a small handful of finely chopped fronds
Three 6-ounce cans line-caught tuna, drained and flaked
3 tablespoons capers, chopped
A small handful oil-cured black or kalamata olives, pitted and chopped
A handful flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
4 hand-cut slices good-quality whole grain bread
About 1 1/2 cups shredded italian fontina val d’aosta or provolone cheese

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat the oven to 350°. Place the garlic and lemon juice in a bowl and whisk in 3 tablespoons EVOO; season with lots of pepper.

Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon EVOO, 1 turn of the pan, in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and fennel bulb and cook to crisp-tender, 6 to 7 minutes; season with salt and pepper.

Add the tuna to the garlic-lemon dressing. Combine with the finely chopped onion, the capers, olives, parsley and fennel fronds; toss to combine. Divide the tuna among the bread slices and top with the sautéed fennel and onions, then the fontina or provolone. Pop into the oven and bake until the bread is crisp, the tuna is warm and the cheese is melted and lightly browned, about 15 minutes.

I liked this recipe. It was reminiscent of the Subway Melt yet so much more sophisticated. I felt like all of the flavors blended together. I couldn't taste the fennel though.. maybe that was a good thing? My husband said he would have probably like it if it was cold and if it didn't have the fennel in it. The leftovers we had I put into a bowl, and my husband actually ate those cold on bread without the cheese. I'm drinking a white Franscati wine with it.. the wine is crisp but smooth. It doesn't leave a bitter or too sweet of an aftertaste which is nice.
